This building is sited on one of the most enviable locations in the city of Philadelphia overlooking Fairmount Park. This 1950’s stone colonial was extremely well built, but was very dated. The house was gutted completely down to the studs and the floor plan was revised to create a much more inviting and functional flow.

Like the first floor, the second was similarly convoluted. Hence we removed some awkward rooms which gave us the desired volume for the new library. The new windows created the illusion of larger fenestrations.

The semi-detached garage with a covered walkway to the new mudroom area created more of a presence for the home that is perched up on a slight hill. All of the moldings, doors, casing and fireplaces were reimagined for a more transcendent classicism and less period style. The existing staircase was removed, raised and recreated, and the door out to the rear yard widened and lengthened creating a spectacular wow moment directly upon entering the front door.

We are overjoyed with the results. The property recently went to market and broke records in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood.
